How did you first learn about animal massage?
If you are like many of our students, you have always wanted to work with animals or maybe, you have had an animal in your life who you wish you could help when they are in need. Whether you found us through search, through a present career or by chance, we are glad you are here and your journey has just begun!
STEPS TO BECOMING AN ANIMAL MASSAGE THERAPIST
- Many of our students start with our FREE Online Introduction to Animal Massage course. It is an easy way to find out if this career might be for you! Though not necessary for certification, this short course will answer many of the questions you might have about the benefits of massage for animals.
- Select our Large Animal track for horses or livestock or our Small Animal track for dogs and other companion animals
- Your first course is our Foundation Level of Animal Massage. There is an online component and an in-person hands-on practical training to this certification course. You must complete the online course first to attend the practical portion. You can expect to spend 4-6 months to complete both. The online portion is self-paced and you will have the support of an online instructor. After completing the coursework, students must complete 25 case studies.
- If you are a Washington State resident, you will need to complete 300 hours of training to be eligible for a license to practice animal therapy. Currently, our Foundation Level is a 200-hour course, so Washington-based students may take either our Performance, Rehabilitation or Acupressure course to obtain the necessary hours. Washington State residents must also pass the national certification exam offered by NBCAAM.org before applying to the Department of Health. (If you are already a licensed massage practitioner through the Washington State Board of Massage, your process is simplified and you are able to obtain an endorsement to your existing license by completing the Foundation Level certification.)
