Approaching a Horse in a Stall : Awareness Copy

Is the horse aware of your presence?

If not, alert him to your presence with your voice or by crossing his visual field from a safe distance. Horses are prey animals. If you startle them, their first instinct is flight.

Are you aware of his/her attitude towards you?

Does he come to the door? Does she turn away? Is he eating? Does she appear healthy? You must respect that a horse’s stall is his/her safe place. Some horses may be protective or even defensive of their space.
